Day of public mourning announced in Iran for Hugo Chavez

Tehran, March 6, IRNA – A Day of public mourning was announced in Iran on the occasion of the passing away of the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Iranian cabinet announced Wednesday as a Day of Mourning nationwide to commemorate passing away of the Latin American anti-imperialist figure.

The decision was made to indicate the reverence of the Iranian nation and government to the late president Chavez.

President Chavez died on Tuesday at the age of 59 from cancer which he suffered from for years.

Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias was born on July 28, 1954 and was known as leader of “Bolivar Revolution” because of his policies and opposition to the US foreign policy. He founded the leftist political party Movement of the Fifth Republic with the aim of bringing welfare for his nation and decreasing class differences in Venezuela.

His success in the program turned him into a national hero in Latin America.
